Male, February 10 (newsin.asia): The Maldives police on Friday handed over a British and an Indian national to the Immigration Authorities, because they were found to be working and reporting as journalists while on a tourist visa, in contravention to the Immigration Act and Regulations.
The police, however, did not reveal their names.
But the India-based Asian News International (ANI) reported that they were employed by the French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) and were identified as Money Sharma from Amritsar and Atish Ravji Patel from London.
“We urge all foreign nationals to adhere to immigration guidelines and acquire the relevant visa that corresponds to the purpose of their visit. We note that several foreign journalists are currently working in the Maldives and welcome all those who wish to do so in the future, the police said in a press release.
“The Maldives Police Service remains committed to working with the department of immigration to ensure the safety of all visitors and uphold immigration laws,” the release added.
