Colombo, August 7 (newsin.asia): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday expressed “deep sorrow” on the death of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.Karunanidhi.
In a tweet in Tamil, Sirisena said: “The passing away of the former Chief Minister and senior political leader M.Karunanidhi pushed me into deep sorrow. I send my deepest condolences to his grieving family and supporters.”
Earlier, Sirisena had sent the Ceylon Workers’ Congress leaders Arumugan Thondaman and Senthil Thondaman to Chennai to call on the ailing leader at Kauvery Hospital with a message wishing the ailing Tamil leader speedy recovery.
Karunanidhi, who had been Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu several times from the late 1960s onwards, died at 94 after a prolonged illness.
