Colombo, October 2 (newsin.asia): To pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, a special programme was held at the Sri Lankan Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on October 1. President Maithripala Sirisena and the High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu offered floral tributes to the Mahatma.
Gandhiji had a close and deep connect with Sri Lanka which is highlighted by his extensive travels all over the Island in 1927. Celebration of Gandhi Jayanti each year in Sri Lanka is hence a dual celebration of Mahatma’s birth anniversary as well as the celebration of his deep connect with Sri Lanka.
