Male, August 29 (AVAS): The Maldivian parliament has approved for Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe to deliver a speech at the parliament during his visit to the Maldives next week.
During the parliamentary sitting held on Tuesday, all 70 members present voted in favour of requesting PM Wickremasinghe to deliver a speech at the parliament.
The President’s Office revealed on Tuesday that PM Wickremasinghe will be undertaking an official visit to the Maldives on September 2 on the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. PM Wickremasinghe will be accompanied by his spouse Professor Maithree Wickremasinghe and a delegation of high level officials including four cabinet ministers.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini recently addressed the Maldives Parliament. The opportunity to address at the parliament is the highest honour bestowed on foreign dignitaries.
