Colombo, July 11 (newsin.asia): Sri Lanka’s parliament on Thursday defeated a No Confidence Motion (NCM) against the government with 119 MPs voting against and 92 voting in favor, in the 225 member House.
The motion was taken up for vote after a two-day debate, which started Wednesday.
The motion was submitted in Parliament by the marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), which stated that the government must resign over its failure to prevent the Easter Sunday (April 21) terror attacks which resulted in the death of 259 people including 47 foreign nationals. More than 500 were injured.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told parliament on Wednesday that the NCM was submitted against the Prime Minister, the cabinet of ministers and the government over their failure to take prompt action to prevent the suicide bombings on April 21 despite the police’s having prior knowledge of possible attacks.
