Colombo, March 1 (newsin.asia): India’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday met the Leader of the Opposition in the Sri Lankan parliament Mahinda Rajapaksa to brief him about the latest developments on the India-Pakistan front.
Rajapaksa tweeted that the Indian envoy met him to “provide an update on developments that followed the recent terrorist attacks in Kashmir.”
Rajapaksa, who leads the Joint Opposition in parliament said: “ I believe this situation can be resolved with peaceful dialogue between the respective leaderships and by the region uniting to defeat terrorism.”
Pulwama Carnage Condemned
Earlier, when the terrorist attack took place in Pulwama in Kashmir on February 14, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and the leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) Dinesh Gunawardene, strongly condemned the brutal car bomb attack by terrorists in Kashmir on Friday.
In a tweet, Pesident Sirisena said: “ Extremely saddened about the dastardly terror attack killing 40 Central Reserve Police Force Jawans in Balawanapur in South Kashmir. The world must condemn such brutal terrorist acts and take effective action to prevent such incidents in future.”
In a tweet, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted that this was the “worst-ever terror act in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989” and expressed his condolences to the families of police officers who lost their lives.
In his tweet, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that he was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the terror attack on military personnel in Kashmir by a car bomb. Samaraweera also noted that this was the first ever such attack in Kashmir.
“My deepest condolences to Mr.Narendra Modi and Ms. Sushma Sawaraj and to the people of India at this trying momenent,” he said.
Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said in his tweet that he condemned the terror act in Jammu and Kashmir.
