Colombo, March 26 (newsin.asia) – Hundreds of nurses attached to state hospitals across Sri Lanka launched a two day token strike starting Tuesday urging the government to address issues faced by them.
The protest which was led by the Public Service United Nurses’ Union led to health services coming to a standstill with thousands of patients left inconvenienced.
Nurses urged the Health Ministry to address several issues faced by them including a raise in their salaries or they have threatened further trade union action.
The Public Service United Nurses’ Union however said the strike had not affected the services in the Apeksha Cancer Hospital, Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital and the De Soysa Maternity Hospital, in capital Colombo.
