Colombo, Dec 27 (NIA) – Sri Lanka’s Former Prime Minister, Ratnasiri Wickremenayake passed away at the age of 83 in a private hospital in Colombo, on Tuesday.
Wickremenayake had been receiving treatment in hospital for the past several days.
He was the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2001 and again from 2005 to 2010. He was also a senior vice-president of the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party. In the present government, Wickremenayake was a senior adviser to President Maithripala Sirisena.
Wickramanayake entered parliament in 1960. Joining the SLFP in 1962, he was re-elected from Horana electorate in 1965 and 1970. He later returned to the Parliament from Kalutara District.
