New Delhi, December 14 (newsin.asia): Exit polls conducted by various Indian TV channels during the just concluded State Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have predicted a convincing win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in both the states.
If the exit polls prove to be correct, it will be a big blow to Congress President Rahul Gandhi because the Congress party will have been dethroned in Himachal Pradesh and will have failed in his attempt to dislodge the BJP in Gujarat. It will be another setback for Rahul Gandhi whose political career thus far has been lackluster.
“Times Now” has predicted 109 seats for the BJP in Gujarat and 70 seats for the Congress led by Rahul Gandhi. According to “IndiaTV-VMR Exit poll”, BJP will win the Central Gujarat region with 23 seats, while Congress may be limited to 16 seats. It predicts 24 to 30 seats for BJP in South Gujarat while Congress is expected to bag 6 to 8 seats. In North Gujarat, India TV predicts 30 seats for the ruling BJP, while Congress may get 23 seats.
However, ABP-CSDS figures suggest a close fight between Congress (78-86) and the BJP (91-99) in Gujarat.
Himachal Pradesh
According to the “India Today-Axis My India” survey, BJP will win 47-55 seats in Himachal Pradesh while Congress could bag just 13 seats. “News 24”, which got most predictions right in the past, has given 55 seats to BJP in Himachal and just 13 seats to Congress.
The Congress is currently ruling Himachal Pradesh, while BJP has been in power in Gujarat for last 22 years.
The elections are seen as a litmus test for both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the newly elected Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Both leaders did extensive campaigning in Gujarat.
