Colombo, June 26 (Colombo Telegraph): It is reliably learnt that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) front-liners Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Wimal Weerawansa threatened by the potential heights of Namal Rajapaksa might rise to, if Gotabaya Rajapaksa is elected into Presidency, have launched a systematic mudslinging campaign against the young politico.
It seems the duo is hoping for a drop in popularity within the party and to move him out of Gota’s good books, so that in a situation where Gota won the upcoming election, they would be able to outdo Namal.
Aluthgamage and Weerawansa have been criticising Namal, claiming he is trying to be on par with Gota and is trying to influence his father and uncle, into controlling the actions of the party and to call the shots.
Colombo Telegraph also hears that the jealous duo have been saying that Namal is immature and would not make it as a party leader. They have also accused him of pitting SLPP members against each other.
It appears this rumour mongering has now escalated to the level of a family rift among the Rajapaksa brothers.
The source said “Poor Weeransansa – Aluthgamage duo has forgotten that Namal can still outdo them; he is Mahinda’s son and Gota’s nephew. After all, blood is thicker than water, they say.”
