Aug 25 (NIA) – A Sri Lankan court on Thursday issued an order preventing 5 local businessmen from leaving the country over the murder of a young millionaire whose body was found in Mawanella, about 100 kilometers northeast of Colombo earlier in the day.
The court order preventing the businessmen from leaving the country was issued after considering a request made by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
The Colombo based 29 year-old textile businessman, Mohamed Shakeeb Sulaiman was abducted earlier in the week outside his residence at Kotelawala Avenue in Bambalapitiya when he arrived home around midnight Sunday.
During investigations the police had found his watch and blood stains on the ground outside his house.
His partially decomposed body was found in Mawanella after the police received information. Police, together with the victim’s family members traveled to Mawanella to identify the body, state-media reported.
Police are currently questioning several friends and businessmen closely associated with the victim.
Media reports further said that following the abduction, a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs 20 million had been made from the Kegalle area, which is close to the location where the body was discovered.
Reports added that investigating officers have also directed their attention towards several businessmen who owed the victim money and those he owed money to.
The police have deployed seven teams to catch the killers.
