Colombo, Dec 14 (NIA) – The Maldives government on Wednesday said that 20 new world class resorts would be unveiled in 2017, in addition to the seven new resorts which were opened this year.
A statement from the Maldives Embassy in Colombo said that tourism had recorded a remarkable growth in 2016 and the honeymoon islands were now expecting more tourists next year.
The Maldives, this year also unveiled the Huravalhi Island Resort, featuring the world’s largest underwater restaurant.
“The growth has been achieved with the dynamic economic policies introduced by President Abdullah Yameen to transform the economy of Maldives,” the statement from the Embassy said.
“With the opening of the new resorts and influx of tourism investments, the tourism industry has become a catalyst for the Governments key pledge of youth employment.”
